CMC is the sodium salt of cellulose carboxymethyl ether, an anionic cellulose ether. CMC is white or milky white fibrous powder or granules with a density of 0.5-0.7 g/cm3, almost odorless, tasteless, and hygroscopic. It is easy to disperse into a transparent gel solution in water, but insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol.

Properties
1. It is thermally stable. The viscosity rises rapidly below 20°C and changes slowly at 45°C. Long-term heating above 80°C will denature the colloid, and the viscosity and performance will decrease significantly.
2. Easily soluble in water, the solution is transparent. It is stable in alkaline solution, but easily hydrolyzed in the presence of an acid, precipitates when the pH value is 2-3, and also reacts and precipitates in the presence of polyvalent metal salts.
Application
In the building materials industry, CMC is used as a retarder, insurance agent, thickener, and adhesive. After adding CMC, the coating has good flexibility, air tightness, and water resistance. It is used as an adhesive and anti-settling agent in the daily chemical industry.
Adding CMC to concrete can increase the water retention, cohesion, and uniformity of concrete, play a role in retarding settings, and increase durability strength. Wall putty powder CMC.
